A lot of change at the turn of this year:
We uprooted our lives in Halifax NS for a balmier winter and change of scenery in Victoria BC. Specifically, we will be here till the end of April.
I am taking my Nova Scotia clients online, and will add some in person clients in Victoria.
Instead of living in a big house with my office inside it, we are now in a one bedroom condo downtown. Additionally, I rented office space nearby
In some ways, it isn’t different. Nevertheless, I am still myself. I take things in stride. However, having a change in routines lets me experience myself in a different way.
For example, my husband and I now share this small space together.Even if I go into the bedroom, we can hear each other as there is no soundproofing. In fact, it is either romantic or annoying. We are going with romantic. Furthermore, if we need space, we have noise cancelling headphones. We will also use the library and coffee shops when we need some time apart. It requires more conscious being together, communicating clearly and respecting each other.
As to to my intentions for this and the first part of this year:
I am working with impatience and rushing. My tendency is to do everything fast. I do not know exactly where it comes from, but I remember my grandmother urging me to peel potatoes faster because ‘the Russians are coming!’ Indeed, you could not waste time during a war — you had to be efficient and focused. Moreover, my parents were born just before World War 2 and were raised with this sense of urgency. Consequently, they raised us this way too. Nevertheless, I can now catch myself. It helps that my husband is older and had a knee replacement, so he walks slower than me. Therefore, when I walk with him, I need to work with that speedy part in me that finds it excruciating to walk slower. Although I used to get annoyed and suppress my speed, I am now learning to look inside and ask: why am I feeling speedy? What is the point? What is chasing me? Can’t I enjoy where I am? Furthermore, that is the way to find the part of me, and I can get to know it better. I don’t have to act under its influence. Instead, I can be curious rather than driven by unconscious tendencies.
Similarly, do you have rushing, impatient parts? Or what other parts do you have that rule your life in a way that stops you from being present in the moment? How do you work with it? Therefore, take a moment to reflect and write a comment if you like.
